About this Event
This month, the technique we will be playing with is discovering all the ways in which we can add botanical elements to our zines! I'll bring along a selection of pressed flowers, some foraged leaves and flowers from my garden, as well as all the equipment we'll need to capture our botanicals! I will take you through all of the steps to press plants, print plants, stick plants, and more! and I can also show you how to fold your own mini-zine to use to decorate with these new techniques!
However, there is no pressure to join in on this technique - you can bring your own projects to work on or dive into our collection of collage materials and art supplies to make your zines! We will have a bunch of prompts lists if you are stuck for ideas! We also welcome you to bring your own zines to show off, or pass around for creative feedback, self-promotion, ideas, and/or to trade with others!!
Please note: if you have hayfever, or allergies to any plants/botanical elements - this event might not be for you as we will be using real plants in our zine-making! or make sure to take an antihistamine before attending.
All experience levels are welcome!
Never made a zine before? Never even heard of a zine before? Wondering what the heck we're talking about?! We will show off some zines from our collection so you can get a good idea of what zines are all about!
All materials are provided!
But please feel free to bring any collage supplies (this can include old magazines, photos, product packaging, cool stationery, ribbons, sequins, and so much more!) or your favourite art supplies if you want to add a personal touch to your zine pages!
Numbers are limited, so please register here, and entry is by donation:
£3-5 is a fantastic solidarity payment, and we really appreciate your support.
£7 will help cover material costs and printing your copy of the zine.
£15 will fully cover all workshop costs.
£15+ is super appreciated if you are able, as it will help us to continue our work with zine-outreach programmes and publishing the work of those who might not otherwise be published.
We also welcome you to donate any of your unwanted art and craft supplies to us for use in our workshops, as well as any old magazines or paper collage materials you want to save from the recycling bin!
This workshop will take place at Calton View Cafe, 9 Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DR
