Who Gets to Tell The Malay Story?
In a book club format, uncover how Teater Ekamatra tells the Malay story with Shaza Ishak and Mysara Aljaru of Teater Ekamatra and The Inquisitive Future of Malayness' Lead Editor, Liyana Batrisyia.
Teater Ekamatra is an established and exciting Singaporean arts company that spotlights artists of diverse ethnicities. They are living out their vision of being at the heart of theatre, by staging daring works that address socio-political issues.
Teater Ekamatra has been commissioned by notable international arts festivals and has also won numerous accolades, especially at Singapore’s highest platform for excellence in theatre, the Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards, where our trophies have included Best Director, Best Actor, Best Costume and Best Original Script several times.
Guided by their values of diversity, inclusivity, integrity, accountability, and people-centredness, Teater Ekamatra is committed to their mission of creating engaging art that inspires, as well as incubating emerging talents, expanding diversity within the industry.
You are highly encouraged to read our 'The Inquisitive Future of Malayness' zine, where Ibrahim contributed an essay titled 'Malay Reading Identities'. The zine is available at Wardah Books: https://wardahbooks.com/products/lepak-conversations-zine-1
