Zapp ft. Sugar Hill Gang & The Furious Five

Zapp, Sugarhill Gang, and the Furious Five are influential groups whose music helped shape funk, R&B, and hip-hop. Zapp, formed from the Troutman brothers’ earlier groups in the 1960s and ’70s, became known for its high-energy funk, family chemistry, and pioneering use of the talk box. The Sugarhill Gang made hip-hop history in 1979 with “Rapper’s Delight,” which became a worldwide, multi-platinum hit and helped bring rap music into the mainstream. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five emerged from the South Bronx in 1976 and became pioneers of recorded hip-hop with innovative performances and influential songs such as “Freedom” and “The Message,” earning major recognition including induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
