About this Event
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors and health and human services workers and any other adult how to identify, understand and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
YMHFA provides you with the knowledge to help someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. The course covers risk factors, warning signs, and strategies for crisis and non-crisis situations, as well as where to turn for help.
The program also highlights common signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance use disorders in young people, including anxiety, eating disorders, and ADHD. It includes expanded content on trauma, addiction, and self-care, as well as the impact of social media and bullying.
Mental Health First Aid emphasizes recovery and resiliency, emphasizing that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better and can use their strengths to stay well.
Before attending the session, you must complete two steps: registering for your MHFA Connect account and completing all pre-work requirements, including a 2-hour self-paced course. Failure to complete pre-work will result in being unenrolled from the course, and no refunds will be issued.
All pre-work is due by July 9th at 12:00 PM ET.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
*Please note that the class will be canceled if the minimum registration requirement is not met.
