About this Event

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, peers, neighbors, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), eating disorders, suicide prevention, and self-care.

This class includes prework which consists of completing a profile in our learning management system, pre course assessment and opinions quiz. This usually takes about 10 minutes. A 6.5 hour instructor-led session will be held at the Health District. To earn your 3-year certification you must complete the previously mentioned portions and the post course assesment, opinions quiz and evaluation.

There is a minimum enrollment of seven for the class to be conducted.
