Youth Media Literacy Video Launch Day |10.07.25 |10am-1pm
About this Event
Come Join us and listen to our young people
What’s happening on the day?
It's jam packed!
- Our 30 young people aged 14-16 from Christchurch Secondary School, Core Jewellery Quarter Academy, North Birmingham Academy, Archbishop Ilsley Catholic School, Stockland Green School and Core City Academy have spent the past few weeks learning, discussing and debating some of the biggest challenges facing young people today. As part of the programme, they recently filmed a short video at Birmingham City University's prestigious media studios- among the largest university media facilities in the UK.
- Watch the students share what they have learnt about media literacy, fake news and digital citizenship through workshops delivered by ConnectFutures.
- Hear from a range of organisations working across education, media and democratic engagement, all aligned with our mission to advance youth media literacy and support the next generation of informed digital citizen.
- The event will also feature a youth panel discussion, where students will reflect on what they have learned about discussing controversial topics, navigating choices online, understanding the impact of digital behaviour and contributing positively to online communities.
- Lunch will be provided.
Some topics covered:
- Building digital resilience, democracy, fake news, mis/dis/mal/information, online hate: notably misogyny and racism, incorporating internet culture, memes, edge-humour and AI.
