Alberta Abbey | Portland, OR
Doors: 6:30 PM
Kavita Kat Macmillan: 7:30-8:15 PM
Youssoupha Sidibe: 8:30-10:00 PM
Join us for a deeply moving evening of sacred music, prayer, and connection with Youssoupha Sidibe at Alberta Abbey in Northeast Portland. Rooted in the rich musical traditions of West Africa while infused with soulful melodies, meditative rhythms, and contemporary global influences, Youssoupha’s music invites audiences into a heart-centered experience of reverence, celebration, and collective presence.
The evening will begin with a devotional opening set by Portland vocalist and sound practitioner Kavita Kat Macmillan, whose work weaves together mantra, ritual, embodied voice, and deep listening. From there, Youssoupha Sidibe will guide the room through the transcendent sounds of the kora, expressive vocals, and immersive sonic landscapes, offering space to listen deeply, gather in community, and experience music as a bridge between cultures, histories, and spirit.
🎶 Youssoupha Sidibe - www.youssouphasidibe.com
Youssoupha Sidibe is a Senegalese West African kora (African harp) player whose music transcends tradition while remaining deeply rooted in ancestral lineage. Throw out all your ideas of what a harpist is. Youssoupha breaks beyond traditional kora styles hundreds of years old to create a sound entirely his own, blending the ethereal beauty of the 21-string kora with soulful melodies and contemporary global influences. Through decades of international touring, collaboration, and performance, Youssoupha has developed a devoted audience around the world.
Grammy nominated for his collaboration with Matisyahu on “Youth,” he has recorded and performed with artists including Michael Franti, India.Arie, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Steve Kimock, Midnite, Michael Kang of String Cheese Incident, Chris Berry Trio, Shimshai, and many others. A devoted practitioner of the Baye Fall Sufi tradition, Youssoupha’s music carries a deep sense of devotion, healing, and spiritual connection. His performances are more than concerts. They are immersive experiences of rhythm, prayer, joy, and remembrance.
