Here’s an important question:
If you became very sick and couldn’t speak for yourself… who would make medical decisions for you?
Would your family automatically have the legal right to decide?
Many families believe that their family members can make decisions for them. But in Wisconsin, that is NOT how the law works.
Wisconsin does NOT recognize “next of kin” the way some people assume.
If you do not complete a Power of Attorney for Health Care form, your family may not legally be allowed to make decisions for you, even if they are your husband, wife, or children.
Without proper paperwork, decisions may be delayed, complicated, or even taken out of your family’s hands.
