Young Writers’ Series
About this Event
Are you a teen writer? Does expanding your knowledge and skills in a fun, teen-led environment sound right up your alley? If so, please join us for a series of workshops, where you will participate in writing prompts and group discussion catered to both seasoned writers and beginners! Find your unique voice, connect with fellow creatives, and have the opportunity to share your work in a supportive space!
A zine will be created collaboratively by the group and will be presented at a celebratory closing event.
- open to teens 13 to 18
- no prior writing experience necessary
- sharing your work is optional
- Each session will cover a different topic

August 2 Discovering Your Voice
Info: Develop storytelling skills through guided writing exercises and group discussion. Each series will guide participants through the creative writing process, covering everything from world-building to peer review. Teens will deepen their understanding of writing in each session. Meet other young writers and explore ideas together!

August 9 World-Building & Genre Study
Info: In this workshop series, aspiring young writers will delve into various genres and formats while mastering the art of world-building! Share your work, inspire others, and gain positive feedback from your peers.

August 23 Character & Dialogue
Info: In this engaging workshop series, young writers will enhance their confidence while honing their dialogue skills and character development. Participants will delve into character arcs and authentic dialogue, share their work, inspire one another, and receive constructive feedback from their peers.

August 30 Pacing & Peer Review
Info: In this interactive workshop series, young writers will have the opportunity to participate in a Mini-Mentorship Session with award-winning author Gume Laurel. This is a chance to learn about editing, receive constructive feedback, and so much more!

September 6 Final Touches
Info: In this lively series of workshops, young writers will have the opportunity to concentrate on finishing touches and assembling their zines! Craft supplies will be available for use throughout the program, but feel free to bring your own as well. Prepare for the **Final Showcase**, which will include a public reading (sharing is optional) and a joyful celebration!
