🌻 Sunflowers are predicted to be ready for pickin' mid-August 🌻
Sunflowers are heading into their fifth season in Iowa City, and they're absolutely worth the wait.
Sunflowers are remarkable in more ways than one. They lift their golden heads to follow the sun across the sky, a dance known as heliotropism. Beneath the surface, their roots work just as hard, breaking up the soil and leaving the fields healthier for seasons to come. With their strength and constant turning toward the light, it’s no wonder they’ve become a lasting symbol of resilience and warmth.
At Wilson’s, we plant sunflowers in succession. By planting different sections of the field at different times, our patch will be in bloom for longer during the season
Whether you’re chasing the perfect photo, wandering with family and friends, or simply pausing to soak in the sunshine, our sunflower patch is a place to slow down and savor the season.
To keep the patch healthy and plentiful for everyone, we may occasionally close it midday to prevent over-picking (this helps ensure there are enough flowers to go around throughout the season). If you're traveling from farther away, we recommend visiting earlier in the day or calling ahead at 319-354-5651 to check on patch availability.

🐕 PET POLICY: Pets are NOT allowed in edible you-pick patches due to USDA guidelines. They are allowed at the Farmyard, Ciderhouse Patio, and the picnic areas. Pets must be leashed at all times, and can't be inside any of our buildings.
📷 PHOTO POLICY: Professional photography is not only allowed, but encouraged! We ask that all guests entering you-pick fields pay standard farm admission, and try not to disturb the experience of other guests. Also, if you wish, tag Wilson's when posting on social media!
☔ WEATHER POLICY: This experience is weather-dependent. We recommend checking the forecast and dressing accordingly! In case of severe weather, we will close the patch early and notify our guests through social media.
📅 WHY AREN'T THE EXACT DATES SET YET? If you’ve lived in Iowa, you know we’re all on Mother Nature’s timeline. 😂 Warmer days, late frosts, sudden cold snaps, it all affects our crops! We’ll announce exact dates, admission details, ticket information, and special offerings once we’re closer and can confidently predict when the fields will be at their very best.
