You, Me & The Honey Bee
with Bonnie Banks
Come ready to explore our relationship with the honey bee! We’ll learn about the very industrious Apis mellifera or the common honey bee through a brief history of beekeeping in Africa & the Americas as well as life in the hive. Participants will get to safely interact with a nucleus beehive, taste and bottle local honey, and learn how to render and mold raw beeswax.
Bonnie Banks is the lead apiarist at 462 Halsey Community Farm in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn. She has been a beekeeper for 10 years and a lover of the natural world for a lifetime. Bonnie also owns and operates Honey Puffs Blends, a line of honey-enriched smoking herbs. Bonnie came to beekeeping after being divinely inspired and continues to practice as an act of reverence and ecological commitment.
