Where is the Yorkshire 3 Peaks?
The Yorkshire Three Peaks can be found between Leeds and Carlisle on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway. Settle or Ingleton are the nearest towns on the A65 transpennine road.
The peaks are part of the gateway to the Yorkshire dales National Park. Heading north will take you to the picturesque town of Hawes.
About the Challenge
Three Peaks walk of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough is probably the original three peaks walk within the UK. The first recorded ascent of the three hills was in July 1887 by J. R. Wynne-Edwards and D. R. Smith in a time of 10 hours which must have been fast given the terrain has been massively improved in recent years. It must have been quite a bog-fest!
For most people the route starts in the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale but it has become a bit too popular in recent years. With so many starting at the same place, there can be bottlenecks forming in a few places. We'll be starting at Ribblehead and will get the three peaks bagged in quick succession with a countryside plod back to the start.
If you've not tackled this route before, we can have a teams or zoom meeting with your group to chat through what to bring and how to pack. This is pretty much a marathon with nearly 1,600m ascent so it's good to be prepared. There are stops en route where we can pick up extra nibbles!
