During the 2026 Residents' Festival, discover how floods have shaped the city of York.York couldn’t have developed without water. The trouble has always been when there's too much of it. Join York’s Hidden History for a city centre walking tour visiting the places that bear witness to this - castles, bridges, churches, halls - and discover how they help tell the fascinating history of how flooding has shaped the city over the centuries.
This guided walk starts outside the Yorkshire Museum and finishes on Hungate. The route is step-free, but follows some cobbled streets that might not be fully accessible to wheelchair users or people of restricted mobility. The walk is aimed at people aged 11+ and there is no fixed ticket price – please donate whatever you feel you can pay.
Please note: in the event of high river levels, the route might need to be changed.
