About this Event
York: Women Witches Warriors Ghost Walk Part Two
After ravew reviews Women Witches Warriors, a 'ghost walk with a difference' is back to introduce you to more Women with more inspirational stories and this time in a new location - York Cemetery, York's Garden of Death. Could you pick a more perfect place for a ghost walk?
Be introduced to and inspired by the women of York who walked before you, as you follow this one-woman performance in their footsteps. This is fiction based on fact. A ghost story with a difference, for these spirits return to help you as opposed to haunt you.
See the cemetery in a whole new light, through the eyes of the Women who helped shape it with their own hands, the Women who mourned their losses here, and some of the Women who are actually buried here!
Learn about the men behind the vision of the Garden of Death from the perspective of the Women who were around in the 1800's. Jonathan Gray was the man of the hour but what did Anne Lister and her 'Adney,' Ann Walker, his clients really think about his way of business? What might Mary Craven have to say on the matter?
Meet the very first person, Charlotte Hall, the flower, who was transplanted into the Garden of Death at the tender age of 25 back in 1837. Hear what she has to say on such an important matter.
In the heart of the cemetery lies the Herb Garden, the brainchild of Ruth Sherratt back in 1991, but what did she intend it to be, and what did the powers that be have to do with it?
Delve back into what is really sacred, that is, the root of all knowlegde, and how some of these herbs have been used time after time in religious ceremony and funerals. Naturally, we cannot not meet a Wise Witch and the Faeries along the way, it is a garden afterall.
And of course, learn how our queen, Queen Victoria influenced how the Garden of Death grew and how we mourn today.
Sasha Parker, one of York's local lasses, and professional storyteller will be your storytelling tour guide on the day, learn why she believes it is so important to unearth the stories of the Women who walked before us, and bring them into the spotlight.
This adult storytelling tour is rated 15+ as the content is aimed at a mature audience.
Meeting point: The main gates of York Cemetery five minutes before the hour.
