About this Event

A School of Ikigai Offering
1.5 hours weekly · Women only · Ottawa

What happens when you quiet the noise long enough to hear yourself again?

Conquering Your Life is a four-week embodied experience created by Yomé × BachataFemmes, bringing together meditation, breathwork, feminine bachata movement and sisterhood.

This isn’t about becoming a better dancer.

It’s about becoming more present in your own body.

Over four weeks, we explore what happens when we move from stillness → awareness → trust → expression → connection.

Each two-hour experience begins by leaving the outside world at the door. We cleanse and ground the energy of the space, move into guided breathwork and meditation, and then gradually bring that awareness into the body through BachataFemmes movement.

Through bachata, we explore confidence, sensuality, play, connection, boundaries and trust. You’ll practice listening to your own body while learning how to move with and trust others.

And because apparently adulthood gives women plenty of opportunities to perform and very few places simply to be, we end each gathering by returning to stillness with breath, reflection and a gratitude circle.

THE FOUR-WEEK JOURNEY

WEEK 1 — STILLNESS | Come Home to Yourself Before you can lead your life, you have to be able to hear yourself.

We begin with the art of slowing down. You’ll explore grounding, nervous-system awareness, breath and meditation before learning the foundations of feminine bachata movement.

Focus: presence · grounding · body awareness · releasing noise · bachata foundations

Ikigai question: What becomes audible when everything else becomes quiet?

WEEK 2 — TRUST | Let Your Body Lead Control isn’t the same thing as trust.

We move from individual awareness into connection. Through breath, movement and partner exercises, we explore trusting our instincts, communicating without words, giving and receiving, and staying connected to ourselves while connecting with another person.

Focus: self-trust · connection · boundaries · partner work · letting go

Ikigai question: Can I trust myself enough to be moved without losing myself?

WEEK 3 — EMBODIMENT | Take Up Space

Sensuality doesn’t have to mean performing for someone else.

This week is about reclaiming movement as self-expression. Through feminine bachata styling and embodied exercises, we explore confidence, sensuality, posture, playfulness and the freedom to be seen.

Focus: confidence · sensuality · feminine expression · joy · endorphins · taking up space

Ikigai question: Who am I when I stop shrinking?

WEEK 4 — CONQUERING | Move as Her

The final week integrates everything we’ve practiced.

Stillness becomes clarity.
Breath becomes regulation.
Trust becomes movement.
Movement becomes expression.
And expression becomes choice.

We dance, connect, celebrate and close our four-week journey together with meditation, breath and a final sisterhood gratitude circle.

Focus: integration · courage · celebration · community · intention

Ikigai question: How would I move through my life if I deeply trusted the woman I am becoming?

WHAT IS YOMÉ?

Yomé is a practice of returning to yourself before moving into the world.

Its philosophy brings together three ideas:

YO — I / self / ME — movement toward action YOMÉ — the practice of meeting, moving and mastering the self

Through stillness, breath and flow, Yomé asks a deceptively simple question:

Can you become quiet enough to hear what your life is asking of you?

It is not about controlling life.

It is about cultivating enough inner steadiness to choose how you meet it.

WHAT IS BACHATAFEMMES?

BachataFemmes began as a global female-empowerment movement through bachata.

Created before female-focused bachata communities became commonplace online, BachataFemmes grew into a global digital community with 3.5 million+ hashtag views and reach spanning 100+ countries.

Today, BachataFemmes lives as a branch of the School of Ikigai, carrying its original mission into a deeper chapter:

helping women reconnect with their bodies, confidence, sensuality and one another through movement.

No dance experience is required.

You don’t need to “know how to be sensual.”
You don’t need to be flexible.
You don’t need to arrive confident.

You simply need to arrive.

ARRIVE → BREATHE → AWAKEN → MOVE → CONNECT → RETURN

And that is the intellectual property I would begin developing beyond this Eventbrite workshop. Bachata becomes one expression of Yomé rather than Yomé being trapped as the name of a bachata workshop.
