Een concert, poëzievoordracht en yin yogales in één. Dat is de formule van de yogaconcerten op zaterdagochtend. De live geïmproviseerde muziek, de yogahoudingen en mystieke poëzie vormen de ingrediënten voor een reis naar binnen. Deze ochtend zal vocaliste en celliste Sanem Kalfa haar improvisaties naar de mat brengen, André Meeusen begeleidt de yogales, die wordt opgebouwd rond een gedicht.
Een beetje bang van haar
‘Ze durft alles te doen met haar stem,’ schreef Jazznu bewonderend. Wat is een yogaconcert?
De kalme, meditatieve en tegelijk intense houdingen van yin yoga geven de mogelijkheid om dieper in het bewustzijn te zakken, voorbij de denkpatronen van de geest. Op de yogamat verweven fysieke sensaties zich met de muzikale improvisaties. Gedachten bedaren, waardoor ruimte ontstaat voor een open ontmoeting: de live geïmproviseerde muziek, de yogahoudingen en mystieke poëzie bundelen samen, werken op elkaar in en versterken elkaar waardoor een nieuwe ervaring ontstaat.
Deur open: 10:45 uur.
Neem een matje mee, en eventueel een waterflesje en props. Er is een beperkte hoeveelheid matjes beschikbaar en een dekentje voor iedereen. De instructies en poëzie zijn tweetalig.

A concert, poetry performance, and a yin yoga class in one. This is the formula of the weekly yoga concerts. Live improvised music, yoga postures, and mystical poetry are the ingredients for a journey inside. This Saturday morning, vocalist and cellist Sanem Kalfa will bring her improvisations to the mat, André Meeusen is guiding the yin yoga, designed around a poem.
A little afraid of her
‘She dares to do anything with her voice,’ Jazznu wrote admiringly. When Sanem Kalfa sings and performs with her cello, she recollects the musical traditions of the Black Sea region where she grew up, while colouring the avant garde of improvised music with her unconventional style. It gave her a warm reception in the likes of the Bimhuis of this world, and the admiration of music reviewers. Her ‘stunning vocals’ (Jazzwise) ‘threaten to steal a show’ (Irish Times), as ‘in every song, Sanem Kalfa seemed to be addressing each member of the audience personally’ (Jazzwise). Pay heed though, as ‘Kalfa’s voice knows how to move and seduce, but sometimes you also get a little afraid of her’ (Jazzflits).
What is a yoga concert?
The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart. In this way, the live improvised music, yoga postures, and mystical poetry intertwine, affect, and strengthen each other into a new experience.
Practical info
Venue open: 10:45 am.
Bring your mat if possible, a water bottle and props if you want. There is a limited amount of mats available and a blanket for everyone. The class and poetry will be bilingual.
