oin us for the launch of Rabbi Katz's second book, Yochanan's Gamble: Judaism's Pragmatic Approach to Life as he joins in conversation with former US attorney, Paul Fishman. Yochanan’s Gamble examines how the talmudic rabbis navigate ethical challenges through a novel lens. In the years after the Second Temple in Jersualem is destroyed they create an authentic Jewish strategy to address moral questions. The rabbis demonstrate how to think situationally, weigh competing values, make hard compromises. They ask, “What will work?” alongside “What is right?” Endeavoring to ascertain truth, uphold compromise, convince others, keep the peace, and more, they birth a malleable, nuanced system of law (halakhah) faithful to received tradition and to the people and circumstances before them. This book speaks to what is lost in today's political discourse.Books will be available to for purchase at the event.
