ABOUT THE SHOW
While known primarily as a solo performer, Yasmin Williams is, for the first time in her career, joining forces with a string ensemble to bring new life to her compositions. Williams is pairing with The Dream Quartet to play new arrangements of the songs off Williams’s latest release, the deluxe reissue of her first album, Unwind, along with other fan favorites. The show will include a variety of musical styles, from Williams’s classic lap-tapping acoustic guitar sound to new songs featuring Williams on vocals and other new arrangements. The Dream Quartet is a dynamic string quartet, mixing classical influences with a contemporary sound; they will bring a new depth to Williams’s guitar arrangements.
ABOUT YASMIN WILLIAMS
Yasmin Williams is an innovative guitarist and composer known for her unique compositional approach and expansive instrumental style. Her latest album Acadia, released on Nonesuch Records, showcases her evolution from solo performer to collaborative artist, featuring partnerships with notable musicians like Aoife O’Donovan and Immanuel Wilkins. Williams’ distinctive creative process involves “ruminating” on single notes until compositions naturally emerge. Beyond traditional fingerpicked guitar, she demonstrates mastery of multiple instruments including kora, harp guitar, banjo, and electric guitar. Her music, while rooted in folk traditions, transcends conventional structures to incorporate elements of progressive rock and experimental composition.
Following her acclaimed 2021 album Urban Driftwood, Acadia represents a significant artistic expansion, featuring three distinct sections that move from traditional folk influences to atmospheric soundscapes and experimental arrangements. Williams’ approach emphasizes sustained tones and intricate articulation, creating music that balances technical precision with ethereal, floating melodies.

The New York City-based Dream Quartet is made up of founding members Malachi Brown, Dwayne Beach, Elizabeth Hendy, and Maggy Simon. The multi-genre quartet was built on the desire to invent, curiosity to experiment, and passion to collaborate. True to their name, they are dreamers at heart, dedicated to sharing their music and art with the world. The quartet often incorporates singing and movement into its performances, bringing a dynamic and multidimensional energy to the stage. The four members thrive on improvisation and composing in various genres, including folk, R&B, pop, disco, and contemporary music. Notable venues include National Sawdust, The Morgan Library, Brooklyn Public Libraries, and House of Yes.
