Please note, there will be a fee for this event to cover the cost of hiring the venue, so cost will depend on how many people want to go. The total cost is £120, and as always, Michael and I will be contributing our share of this also.
Yarm Fellowship Hall is a reported hotbed of paranormal activity and there have been several strange sightings within the building. Yarm Fellowship Hall featured in the local papers when a black figure was captured in a photograph in a mirror in an upstairs room. The figure is believed to be that of a priest who once worked and lived in the building.
The foreboding black shadow has been seen many times and people report feelings of fear, being watched and furniture moving on its own.
Clear voices have been heard by those using the venue, even when everyone is accounted for in the room.
In main hall and back room shadows, flashes of light and shouts from children have been reported by visitors. The children are said to hide away behind furniture and peek out every now and then, as if intrigued to see who has stopped by. Although the children are said to be shy, they will communicate as long as they don’t feel threatened.
The foundation stone of the building was laid in 1822 to build a primitive Baptist chapel and was completed in 1831. In 1897 the Main Hall was added and following its completion, the middle hall was built to join the two halls together. This became a Methodist Church until it was sold to Yarm Parish Church in the early sixties.
The hall was used as the parish hall until it was sold to the Emmanuel Fellowship Church in 1976.
In 1996, Yarm Town council purchased the hall, after the Emmanuel Fellowship Church outgrew its capacity. When the charitable trust was set up to run the hall, the trustees renamed it Yarm Fellowship hall.
