Yardworks Festival: Design your Deck

A creative, hands-on session for adults to design and customise their own skateboard deck—no previous art or skating experience needed. Over two hours, participants will explore deck design basics (shape, layout, colour, and composition), develop a concept, and bring it to life using a mix of sketching, masking, paint/marker techniques, and finishing details.

The workshop starts with quick inspiration and prompts to help you find a direction, followed by guided planning so your design fits the deck format and looks strong from a distance. You’ll then move into making, with the facilitator on hand to demonstrate techniques (clean lines, layering, lettering, patterns, and simple graphic effects) and support you to refine your work as you go. By the end, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind deck design you can be proud of.
