Xpression - Kontho, Awaaz, Arupu: Unsilenced

To be premiered at Shudrka Hyderabad’s own theatre festival, XPRESSION – Season 4, Kontho, Awaaz, Arupu: Unsilenced is a three-act play about power’s fear of knowledge. Rooted in the idea of "vidwesh"—hatred sustained through control, division, and silence—the work follows a teacher, a scientist, and a community whose language itself becomes forbidden. In each act, authority demands obedience not only from bodies, but from thought, reason, and speech.

Across time and space, the pattern remains the same: power fears those who question. A teacher insisting on logic is killed. A scientist is forced to deny truth. The final act explores a world where people are punished for speaking their own language.

The play refuses a fixed geography or historical period, allowing audiences to recognize their own realities within it. Breaking away from the proscenium form, the production transforms the audience seating area into the stage, implicating spectators within the machinery of surveillance, control, and resistance.
