About this Event
Explore the relationships between grandmothers, mothers, and daughters to be a living embodied archive through the multi-sensory, multilingual digital publication ‘Xian – A Thread’.
Launching 19 November, with a multi-disciplinary, multi-sensory and multi-lingual exhibition ‘Xian – A Thread’ weaves together the works, heritages and memories of Chinese and Mongolian artists, curators from China and Australia, and their matrilineal ancestors.
From textile sculptures rematriating culture, and exploring the female body as vessels of memory, to moving image works returning voice to matrilineal ancestors, and oil paintings challenging obligations imposed on women, ‘Xian – A Thread’ explores the embodiment of memory and archive.
Accessibility: The Crit Space is on the fifth floor of the Stow Building and is accessible via lift. An accessible pdf version of the digital publication will be made available. The launch event will be multi-sensory, and involve large projections, soundscapes in multiple languages, varying smells and tactile engagements.
