A Derby is a Combined Jumping Course and comprises both Cross Country and Showjumping fences in a single phase.

E.5. Derby
E.5.1. Grading as per Horse Trials. No rider under 8 years may ride in any course that comprises of solid Cross Country fences.
E.5.2. There is no Dressage Phase.
E.5.3. A Derby is a Combined Jumping Course and comprises both Cross Country and Showjumping fences in a single phase.
E.5.4. A Derby competition takes place over a distance of at least 750m and not more than 1900m over a course which comprises at least 50% of the efforts over natural obstacles. It is run over one round only.
E.5.5. The heights and dimensions for the combined jumping course as stipulated in table E7.
E.5.6. It is judged under Horse Trials Cross Country Rules with penalties as per table E6.
Penalties for Derby Competitions:
-Knocking down an obstacle: 4 penalties
-First refusal, run out or circle at obstacle: 20 penalties
-Second refusal, run out or circle at same obstacle: 40 penalties
-Third Refusal, run out or circle at same obstacle: Elimination
-Fourth refusal, run out or circle on course: Elimination
-First fall of horse on course: Elimination
-First fall of rider on course: Elimination
-Error of Course not rectified: Elimination
-Omission of obstacle or compulsory flag: Elimination
-Re-taking an obstacle already jumped unless retaking part of a combination: Elimination
-Jumping an obstacle in the wrong order: Elimination
-Jumping an obstacle in the wrong direction: Elimination
-Activating a frangible/deformable/MIMS pin: 11 penalties
-Forbidden assistance: Elimination
-For every second in excess of the time allowed: 1 penalty
-Exceeding the time limit (twice the time allowed): Elimination
-Dangerous riding: 25 penalties
