Please join us in Springdale for our joint February lunch program with ASCE titled “Safety for Vulnerable Users.” The panel style presentation will feature guests from the City of Bentonville, City of Fayetteville, and ARDOT.
About Our Speakers
Dane Eifling
Mobility Coordinator, Engineering Division, City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
Dane Eifling began working at the City of Fayetteville in 2014 as the City’s first Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. From 2018-2020 Dane served in a joint role as the Bike/Pedestrian Coordinator for both the University of Arkansas and City. In 2020, Dane began a full-time role as the City’s first Mobility Coordinator with responsibilities including transit, micro mobility, traffic calming, walkability and bicycle network planning. In 2023 Dane was the lead author of a Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant application to fund Fayetteville’s Vison Zero Strategy which was awarded $25 million by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Dane is a Fayetteville native; he serves part time in the U.S. Navy Reserves Construction Forces and has a BA in Human Geography from San Francisco State University.
Ellen Norvell
City Engineer, City of Bentonville, AR
Ellen Norvell has worked in municipal government and as a consulting engineer in several cities and states during her professional career. One of her most rewarding responsibilities has been the mentoring of new graduate engineers. For the past seven years, she has worked for the City of Bentonville as the Community Development Director and as the City Engineer. While Community Development Director, Ellen provided presentations and feedback to the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding long-range planning, residential and commercial developments, zoning applications, and requests for variances to City Standards. As the City Engineer, she reviews private development plans and manages capital improvement projects. She has served as the City representative on committees and boards and is the City liaison with developers, property owners, and the public. Other duties include Floodplain Management, Stormwater Protection, and Emergency Operation Programs. Ellen is currently a licensed professional engineer in Arkansas and a Certified Floodplain Manager. She is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Arkansas Floodplain Managers Association. Ellen has been married to her husband Tim for 40 years. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren. They love spending time with family and traveling. She is also an active member of Cross Pointe Community Church.
John Lasley, PE
Assistant Division Head of Planning & Research, ARDOT
John Lasley, PE is the Assistant Division Head of Planning & Research at the Arkansas Department of Transportation where he assists in overseeing Traffic Safety, Statewide Planning, Performance Management, GIS, and Research efforts. After graduating from the University of Arkansas, John began his career as a Traffic Safety Engineer in this Division. He then went on to promote to a Senior Engineer in the Program Management Division where he led efforts in developing the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). He also received experience with the Department’s bid lettings as a Staff Engineer in the Program Management Division. John has maintained his passion for safety throughout his years with the Department which led him back to Planning & Research. When he isn’t working John enjoys watching his Razorbacks (sometimes), playing tennis with his wife, and kayaking on the many rivers Arkansas has to offer.
