About this Event
In this workshop, we will discuss the weird and the eerie in the writings of prominent horror writers such as Poe, Lovecraft and more, noting how they channel certain individual and societal anxieties to inhabit creatures of the night and nervous protagonists. The workshop, two hours total, will be broken up into roughly four half-hour modules.
Module 1: Fear Writing
A presentation that explores the writing of several prominent authors to act as a primer for our writing sessions.
Module 2: Free Write
Writers will be provided time to dive into a free write with a given prompt related to the topic of horror-writing.
Module 3: Add the Weird and the Eerie
In this module, writers will have the opportunity to revise, move forward or start a new story, this time adding tropes from the genres of horror, scifi, gothic traditions and suspense.
Module 4: Discussion
In this last module, writers will have the opportunity to share writing, ask questions and continue to talk out ideas.
Writers are encouraged to bring their laptops, tablets, notebooks, journals, napkins or any other writing materials.
