Writing the Irish Landscape with Ruby Free
About this Event
Taking place at the Seamus Heaney Centre during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the workshop celebrates the deep connections between people, place and culture. From rugged coastlines and islands to farmlands, hedgerows and gardens, participants will be encouraged to reflect on how the landscapes of Ireland shape our identities, memories and sense of belonging. Just as traditional music carries the spirit of place through melody, nature writing carries it through words, as Seamus Heaney showcases so brilliantly in much of his work!
Through guided writing exercises, discussion and close observation of the natural world, attendees will learn how to transform everyday experiences of nature into compelling stories and personal reflections. Whether participants are experienced writers or complete beginners, the workshop will provide an inclusive and supportive environment in which to discover their own voice.
About Ruby Free
The workshop will be led by Ruby Free, a nature writer, ecologist and grower whose work explores natural world and our place within it. As the author of a bestselling book; Rathlin, A Wild Life, and writer of the popular monthly Life on the Farm column in The Irish News, Ruby brings a wealth of experience in storytelling, conservation and rural life.
