Writing Course: Writing is Rewriting...

Percy Jackson, Star Wars, Many of our beloved modern stories are actually based on ancient tales and in this class we'll explore the process of taking an old story and putting a new spin on it!

You can book individual days or all five. Any day will be enjoyable for your child and they will be given materials so they can continue building their stories on their own.

Monday: We'll kick off the course by reading some ancient stories. Your kids are ancouraged to bring the stories they like the most from old sagas, myths and folklore.

Tuesday: We'll start playing some writing games together and look at modern settings that we'd like to write about.

Wednesday:We'll look at old examples of the stories being retold and how they have changed over the centuries.

Thursday: We'll look at how old stories create characters and see if we can expand on these characters to make them more realistic, more modern, and how we can uphold their original ideals.

Friday: We'll finish rewriting our chosen stories as modern sagas - and read them out to the parents if you're lucky!

Sarah E Williams is an experienced creative writing tutor. For over four years she has been teaching creative writing to children an adults alike via online platforms and in person. Since moving to York last year she has been collaborating with The Blue House Bookshop in order to bring her love of writing to younger students. She brings excitement and enthusiasm to each class and helps every child believe that they can succeed in writing while enjoying the process.
