About this Event

Join children's author Carla Fitzgerald and illustrator Peter Baldwin for an entertaining workshop on the craft of bringing characters to life. Using examples from their books, Carla and Peter will guide you through a series of writing and drawing activities to help you create your own original character.

About Carla

Carla Fitzgerald is a children's author and a recovered lawyer from Sydney. Carla’s books include How to Make the World Cup and Survive Grade Five, How to Break a World Record and Survive Grade Five (a 2025 CBCA notable book) and How to Be Prime Minister and Survive Grade Five. Yes she likes long titles! Her favourite things to do are write, walk, read, eat and hang out with her family. Not necessarily in that order.

About Pete

Peter Baldwin is an illustrator and primary school teacher with a lifelong love of drawing. Peter has illustrated a range of children’s books, including Lucky, Granbad, the Maxi the Lifeguard series and the covers for the Survive Grade Five series. Before becoming an illustrator, Peter worked in wildlife conservation education at The Australian Museum and Taronga Zoo, where his love of drawing and the natural world came together. He still enjoys combining his passion for drawing with his interest in wildlife and the environment.
