Step back in time at the Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival within the historic Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, where cobblestone streets and heritage buildings provide the perfect backdrop for a day of traditional craftsmanship and festive fun. 🎉
Meander through a vibrant gathering of artisans, each one a keeper of age-old skills—knife makers, coopers, and leather crafters—revealing the magic of their trades. Witness the artistry of a scoreboard plaque maker, the delicate finesse of wool spinners, and the charm of old-world hand shearing. Marvel at leather crafters transforming raw hides into stunning creations and breathe in the richness of handmade soaps. You can also admire the detailed work on laser-cut fire pits and experience the timeless skills of screen printing and sign writing as each demonstration invites you deeper into a world of creativity. ✂️
Venture to the garrison, where whispers of history come alive! Dive into tales of exploration and maritime intrigue, pondering what might have been had the tides turned differently. Don’t miss the blacksmith, whose rhythmic hammering transforms metal into art—a true celebration of craftsmanship. 🔨
Venture to the garrison, where whispers of history come alive! Listen to captivating shipwreck survivor stories filled with bravery and adventure, bringing Warrnambool’s maritime heritage to life. ⚓
As part of the Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival, we’re cranking up the excitement with live, interactive performances. Join Aaarrabella the Piratess and her mischievous Pirate Parrot for a thrilling treasure hunt filled with daring escapades and lighthouse legends. Will you uncover the hidden loot? 🏴‍☠️
For the little adventurers, face painting will be available to transform them into pirates, sailors, or whatever their imaginations can conjure! 🎨 Meet Rose Ann Hyland, the fearless Irish convict and sole survivor of the dramatic Neva Shipwreck. Her chilling tale of survival, recounted by the incredible Lady of History, Janice Haynes, reveals how her courage inspired the creation of the lighthouses that guide sailors today.
The festivities continue with live cane fishing rod demonstrations showcasing traditional techniques. Stroll through stalls featuring traders and food vans, offering everything from smoky BBQ to decadent donuts. Sip refreshing local brews, cider, and wine while tasting locally produced cheese and honey—there’s something to satisfy every palate. Indulge in a delightful Devonshire Tea, complete with freshly baked scones, jam, and cream. ☕🍰
Enjoy live performances by Flo Lindeman and the Tin Shed Singers, and delve into the mystical world of tarot or palm reading. 🔮
Wreckfest is a family-friendly celebration brimming with history, fun, and discovery for visitors of all ages.
