Rosé wine has an ancient history possibly event the oldest wine style evolving from early winemaking practices in the Mediterranean region particularly ancient Greece and Rome where light-colored wines were preferred it is also often a misunderstood category due to the massive success of White Zinfandel and similar Blush wines in the 1990s. Pink inevitably like German Riesling meant sweet. It has taken a while to build confidence that Rosés are not that!
The practice of more quickly removing the color bearing skins from the grapes' juice became well established in Provence France around the 6th century BC achieving many of the varietals unique characteristic flavors without the leached tannins associated with maceration resulting in crisp refreshing but tending towards drier fruit notes.
OTV hosts a number of Rosé tastings a year including an all Sparkling version too. Variety range and sources are always growing with almost all consumed within the vintage year they are released.
