About the Author/Artist:
James Paterson, also known as JP, has spent most of his life as an artist and all his life as an "Imagineer," bringing his heart and imagination to life through his art. His wire creations, called Prayer Machines, combine childhood experiences with the rich visual influences of growing up in Toronto's Kensington Market. These storytelling machines evolved during a three-year journey across Europe and are joyful expressions sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.
Entirely crafted from twisted wire, these creations invite viewers to engage with their swirling shapes and moving parts, giving expression to the mystery within each unique piece. Splashes of color add to their joyful presence, thanks to a special technique James developed.
James' wire sculptures have won numerous awards and been featured in major exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia. His Prayer Machines, Play Machines, and Engines of Joy have been commissioned by notable institutions such as The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, The University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center, and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.
James and his wife, Lynn, currently reside in the scenic Georgian Bay region of Ontario, Canada.
