About this Event

Guy Deacon CBE, travelled18,000 miles from his home in Dorset to Cape Town in a VW campervan. He was joined by Rob Hayward and his camera, the director and producer of "World's Toughest Drive - My African Adventiure".

This 43 minute documentary, premiered on Channel 4 in April 2025, provides a thoughtful insight into the harsh reality of life with Parkinson's. Witnessed first hand through Guy's own story, this film also reveals the cruelty of Parkinson's for countless other sufferers in Africa, many of whom are shunned by their families and communities who believe the illness to be either a contagious disease or the work of black magic.

Guy will be present at the event to meet with the audience and answer any questions.

Rob will be sharing an insight into his time in Africa with Guy and will show an extra reel showcasing some of the behind the scenes footage.

Proceeds from the evening will be dontated to The Deacon Foundation, established by Guy to specifically provide an efficient mechanism to collect and account for funds raised by all elements of this film and Guy's book, "Running on Empty" and to distribute those funds to the lowest level in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease and particularly to address the stigma associated with it.
