Rotary District 6270 and Racine Founder's Rotary Club: Invite You the community to participate in the World’s Largest Polio Walk.
Ten – That’s the number of polio cases that were reported this year worldwide, and all that stands in the way of totally eradicating this disease from the planet. Presently, it recurs only in two countries. You can do something to help rid the world of this crippling disease.
On Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m., members of the Racine Founders Rotary Club, will join fellow Rotarians from Rotary District 6270 and 22 other districts covering part of Canada and the central United States, to lead the World’s Largest Polio Walk.
The local walk will take place at Campus Park, 8500 Campus Dr., in the Village of Mount Pleasant. Walkers will be offered two routes: short paved loop trail around the stage or a longer paved loop trail around the park. Those who contribute $25 or more and are among the first 100 people to register, will receive a t-shirt. All proceeds from the walk will go to Rotary’s PolioPlus efforts to eliminate polio for good.
Walkers are asked to arrive at the park between 9:30-9:45 a.m. A group photo will be taken before the step-off promptly at 10 a.m.
To register, contact any member of the Racine Founders Rotary Club or call 262-221-2982. Advance registration is suggested to reserve a shirt.
“Whether you're a Rotary member or simply looking for a way to get involved, everyone is welcome to join the World's Largest Polio Walk,” said local club president Katie Humphrey.
How did Rotary International get involved?
In 1985, at a time when there were 1,000 cases of polio reported in the world EACH DAY, Rotary International pledged to all the children of the world… WE WILL ERADICATE POLIO.
