About this Event

Celebrate World Water Day with us at the beautiful Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve with Friends of Ballona Wetlands and oceanography professor, Dr. Lisa Collins for a morning of learning, connection and stewardship.

Schedule

Guided Walk

We'll begin with a guided hike through the wetlands led by Friends of Ballona Wetlands, who will share the rich history of this unique ecosystem and the vital role it plays in Los Angeles' coastal watershed.

Together, we'll trace the journey of water from the Santa Monica Mountains, through the marsh, and out to the Pacific as we discover how this flow shapes habitat, supports wildlife and affects humans.

Open Discussion

Then, we'll have an open discussion with oceanography professor, Dr. Lisa Collins, as she teaches us how watersheds influence ocean health, water quality, and the living systems that depend on them.

Bring your curiosity! Questions and discussions are encouraged.

15 minute Creek Cleanup

Before we close, we'll have a 15 minute community creek cleanup along the rocky edge of the watershed. Gloves, bags and supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself, some sun protection and a willingness to show up for this special place.

Group Reflection

We'll end our time together with a group reflection and a chance to talk about our experience together.

Come learn, enjoy walking through an ecological haven in the middle of the city and join us in being part of protecting the waters that connect the mountains, wetland, coast and the community.

Format: Guided hike, outdoor learning experience & 15 minute coastal cleanup (supplies provided)

Terrain: Sandy, rocky, uneven ground

Distance: 1 mile total

Parking: Meet at the dirt parking lot behind "Local" market, in front of the ecological reserve sign.

What to bring: Closed toe shoes, water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.), curiosity and community spirit! Optional: camera/journal/binoculars

To save your spot, please RSVP using this Eventbrite as well as sign the following waiver! FBW Waiver 2026
