World Suicide Prevention Day in Plymouth
About this Event
For some people, the subject of suicide can be difficult. The impact of suicide is felt in communities every day, and for that reason this year our theme for World Suicide Prevention day is IMPACT. We want to bring out community together to consider:
The IMPACT of thoughts of suicide on a person in crisis
The IMPACT of bereavement by suicide
The IMPACT of breaking down stigma in our community
The event is hosted by the Public Health Team at Plymouth City Council in collaboration with Methodist Central Hall.
The afternoon will encompass a variety of talks including:
Suicide prevention in Plymouth – what are we doing?
Lived experience speakers
Suicide prevention and children and young people
Future plans for Plymouth as a community
There will be signposting for training and bespoke talks to facilitate learning for individuals or organisations.
We are delighted that there will be representation and information available from the following organisations who will be on site, with stalls on the day:
Pete’s Dragons
Livewell
Papyrus
Young Devon
CAPE Men’s Mental Health Network
Jeremiah’s Journey
We want to make Plymouth a place that supports people in times of personal crisis and builds individual and community resilience to improve lives.
We aspire to work together to make all communities in Plymouth suicide safer communities.
The ambition for suicide prevention is to deliver a consistent downward trajectory in the suicide rate, that remains below or at least in line with the national average.
Let's break the stigma and start the conversation. Your presence matters.
Together, we can make a difference.
