About this Event

You are invited to participate in our 2nd annual all-ERG World Storytelling Day event on March 20th at Hunt Library 308! The theme for 2025 is "Deep Water". "This theme can have many meanings: stories in which a character is in trouble, stories about magical waters, or stories connected to deep waters like the sea, a lake, or a river." If you're familiar with The Moth, the structure of the event is pretty much the same.
Each storyteller will have 5-6 minutes to tell their story and people are welcome to bring something prepared or present something spur of the moment. All are welcome to sign up for a slot, but you are not required to be a storyteller to attend the event: we need audience members as well!
Rules:

  • All stories must be about you
  • All stories must be true
  • All stories must be on theme
  • Be respectful!
We strongly encourage in-person participation, but there will be a Zoom link for those who are unable to make it. Lunch will be provided by Roots Natural Kitchen. We hope to see you all there!

Important note: In collaboration with Hunt Library's Anniversary Exhibits and Publishing Managing Editor, Brad King, we would like to collect the stories shared for the library's Oral History Project. We would create a collection called "World Storytelling Day" and audio record the stories either at the event or storytellers could do a one-on-one with Brad. We would then transcribe that story, get some biographical information, and collect those into an archived collection. The authors would 1) retain ownership of their stories; 2) work with Brad on the transcript so that we might make LIGHT copyediting changes; and 3) determine if they wanted that to be public, private, or private to researchers. Storytellers can opt out of having their stories recorded - just let us know! We hope to turn these stories into a published book that each participant will receive and will be archived in the library.
