Join us in celebrating World Rivers Day by paddling the lower Maitai River.
Date: Saturday 21 September (wet weather backup Sunday 22 September)
Time: 10:15am for safety briefing
Location: lower Mahitahi/Maitai River, opposite Trafalgar Centre at the launch spot by the big sculpture.
The tide is extra high (a King tide) which means the lower part of the river can be paddled.
What to bring:
- paddle vessel
- PFD (Personal Floatation Device)
- leash if using a paddle board
- towel
- plenty of water
- perhaps a picnic
- dress for the conditions
Don't have a paddle craft?
You can hire one through Moana Paddle Nelson.
Use the code ‘FREEPADDLE’ (Limited stock). Hired paddle boards, kayaks and PFD’s will be brought on the day of the event.
Their staff will also give you some paddling tips to get you started.
What else will there be at the event?
- the Big Tāhuna – a giant paddle board that can fit up to 8 kids or 10 adults! So, gather your whānau or a group of friends and see how you go.
- an on-shore Activity Zone with river themed activities, juices, and ice blocks.
