Drawing on a kaleidoscope of late-’70s and ’80s influences — from post-punk and indie rock to the hazier edges of shoegaze — World News carve out a sound built on shimmering, atmospheric guitar lines and cool, magnetic melodies. Their music is moody yet immediate, nostalgic yet sharp-edged, earning them comparisons to British icons like The Smiths, The Clash, and Dire Straits. They channel the past with affection, but their voice remains strikingly their own.
2024 marked a major leap forward for the band, with the release of two acclaimed EPs, Escape and Mindsnap, a debut U.S. performance at New York’s New Colossus Festival, and recognition from Stereogum (40 Best New Artists of 2024) and The Fader (13 Artists to Watch in 2025). Their 2025 singles — “Don’t Want to Know” and “Everything Is Coming Up Roses” — hint at the sonic evolution shaping their anticipated 2026 debut LP.
