World Newah Day 2026 & Children’s Art Competition

A key highlight of this year’s celebration will be a virtual, school-level children’s art competition, with winners to be announced during the event. The program will also feature a variety of engaging activities, including musical performances, authentic cuisine, and other cultural presentations.

Venue: Woodway Hall 202, Edmonds College, 20000 68th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036
Programs will include:
1. Musical performances (in coordination with Dabuli)
2. Prize distribution for Children’s Art Competition (Art submission is virtual, winner announcement during the event day. Competition is free to all the children's ages up to 18 years old.)
3. Nepal bhasa short movie
4. Authentic Newari dinner (samay baji set, pizza will be served for kids)
** Alcoholic drinks available for purchase, and not included with the ticket.

Kids under 10 and all participants of the art competition and the cultural program are free.

Guidelines for the 2026 Children’s Art Competition
1. The theme of the art competition is “Newah Culture and Heritage.”
2. Participants will be categorized into the following age groups:
a. Group 1: Ages 5 years and under
b. Group 2: Ages 6 to 10
c. Group 3: Ages 11 to 13
d. Group 4: Ages 14 to 18
3. Each participant may submit one artwork only.
4. There is no entry fee for participation.
5. Submissions are open to all; however, only participants who fall within the age groups listed above will be eligible for competition.
6. Acceptable art mediums include, but are not limited to, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, acrylic, and similar media.
7. The recommended artwork size is approximately 11" x 14" or 15" x 20". Submissions that are excessively large or small are discouraged.
8. If fewer than five participants compete in any age group, that group may be combined with another group.
9. To participate, participants or their guardians must email a clear photograph of the artwork to [email protected] and include the following information:
a. Email Subject Line: WND2026 Art Competition – [Participant’s Name]
b. Participant’s full name
c. Participant’s age
d. Title of the artwork
e. A brief description explaining the artwork and its connection to Newah culture
10. We will make every effort to collect the original artwork for the purpose of judging. If this is not possible in advance, please bring your original artwork on the day of the event.
All submissions must be received by midnight on March 8, 2026, to be considered eligible.
11. Competition winners will be announced during the World Newah Day event.
12. All artworks will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges.
13. Two winners will be selected from each age group.
