Bring your binoculars or spotting scope and flock to the Alaska Zoo on Saturday, May 9th for self-guided birding activities during regular zoo hours of operation (May hours daily from 9am-6pm). World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated annually at the Alaska Zoo with our longtime partner U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The theme this year is "Every Bird Counts - Your Observations Matter". Visit our event page to learn more, including species highlights. https://www.alaskazoo.org/world-migratory-bird-day-at-the-zooThe Alaska Zoo’s 30-acre facility is a naturally wooded boreal forest with the South Fork of Little Campbell Creek running through the back of the zoo. We are seeing migratory species passing through the zoo’s grounds now, so you never know which species you will encounter.
We will have the following self-guided amenities for guests:
- Birding signs with QR codes which visitors can scan with phone cameras to learn about birds and birding.
- Coloring sheets available at the admissions entrance.
- Learn about the steps we are taking to make our zoo more bird friendly by reducing collisions! https://www.alaskazoo.org/bird-collisions-ways-to-protect-birds
Regular zoo rates and membership use at the gate.
Migrate to the zoo to celebrate the return of millions of birds to Alaska this spring!
