World AIDS Day: Advances in HIV prevention and treatment

World AIDS Day is celebrated on 1st December every year to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and related research. To coincide with this, we have organised a ‘World AIDS Day event’ at the Francis Crick Institute since 2017 to highlight HIV research in the local area. This year, the event will take place from 2pm on Friday 29th November and the theme is ‘Advances in HIV prevention and treatment’. The event will be open to members of the public, researchers, clinicians and all those interested in HIV and AIDS and HIV research.

We have an exciting line up of speakers including Prof Sheena McCormack who directed the Prep trial that was instrumental in leading the way for HIV prevention in the UK; Dr Paul Benn from ViiV, who will talk about long acting HIV treatment; Ms Winnie Sseruma, an HIV treatment activist highlighting the impact of HIV on women and people living with HIV and The National AIDS Trust, who will tell us about the UK’s policy on HIV prevention and treatment. There will also be a panel discussion where all the speakers will answer questions from the audience.
