A watermark is a translucent design, logo, or pattern embedded during the papermaking process. Visible when held up to light, watermarks have historically been used as a security or authenticity feature, but can also be a beautifully subtle artist’s mark. This class is for beginners as well as those with experience pulling sheets of handmade cotton paper, looking to add new techniques to their repertoire! Thorough instruction will be given on the process, materials, and techniques of making paper with cotton pulp, using pigmented pulp to add color and design to your papers, and the technique of creating watermarks.
Students can work at their own pace and focus on the techniques that interest them most! Paper sheets will be ready for pick up a few days after the class.
All materials are included, but you may want to bring a drawing or sketch of your watermark design idea.
