About this Event
In this workshop we will look at urban surfaces from a new perspective and use them to stimulate our creativity and our imagination into creating collages mixed with everyday urban textures.
This workshop will be structured around three moments:
First we will look at urban surfaces from an open and detailed perspective: can cracked paint, faded posters, old stickers and graffiti evoke histories, emotions, ideas?
In a second moment we will experiment with aerosol paint, aka graffiti, markers, crayons or collected decollage pieces of posters to create elements or backgrounds.
And finally we will cut through magazines and combine all the materials onto a surface to create a new, unified piece. It’s all about mixing textures, shapes, and colors to tell a story or express a concept whether it’s political, poetic, architectural, or just beautiful or fun to make
About Ana:
Ana Gariso works in the areas of Social Sciences with an emphasis on Communication Sciences, Urban Studies and Visual Culture. She is interested in how the urban space is created through the everyday gestures of all the passers-by and how graffiti and urban creativity can be powerful tools in reclaiming the right to the city.
Ana also has an Illustration course from Nextart and she remembers making collages since she was in kindergarten. She creates them more seriously since she joined Collage Working Club weekly get togethers two years ago. She has experimented diverse ways of approaching this broad technique and is still discovering new things everyday.
Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
