NEW! Sculpted Acrylic Painting – A Two-Day Workshop

May 28th and 29th - 10:30am - 1:30pm (No makeup dates)

Ever wonder how to create paintings with real volume and texture? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll shape and carve with molding paste and a palette knife directly on your canvas. Then the next day, you’ll bring the surface to life with acrylic color, allowing pigment to settle into the ridges and valleys to bring out depth and movement. Through guided demonstrations and individual instruction, you’ll explore color mixing and the interplay of light across the raised and recessed areas. Both beginners and experienced painters, welcome.

Supply List*:

• Canvas — minimum 16" × 20", maximum 36" × 36" (pre-gesso preferred)

• Acrylic paints — 4–5 colors plus black. Optional: fluorescent, neon, or metallic colors

• Molding paste — 16 oz container

• Palette paper for mixing paint

• Palette knife and at least one kitchen utensil: fork, potato masher, grater, etc

• Brushes — preferably filberts

Fran Mann Goodman

I am an abstract expressionist painter and educator whose work explores movement, texture, and emotional expression through layered surfaces and vibrant color. My paintings have been exhibited in more than fifty gallery exhibitions and are held in private collections internationally, including those of prominent Hollywood collectors.

I received my formal training in fine art at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, where I developed a disciplined studio practice and a strong understanding of visual language. Years later, after recovering from Lyme disease, I returned fully to painting and continued my studies through master classes with renowned abstract expressionist Larry Poons at the Art Students League of New York.

Before returning to my studio practice, I spent more than thirty years in the beauty industry, teaching women to approach makeup as an expressive art form. Through workshops and self-development programs across the United States and Canada, I explored identity and self-representation through the face. This work received national media attention, including appearances on television talk shows and features in major women’s magazines and The New York Times.

Teaching is central to my professional life. For more than twelve years I have taught a program I developed, Not Your Ordinary Painting Class, offered both online and in person. The program blends art history with techniques in abstract expressionism and is designed for both beginners and experienced painters, encouraging freedom of expression through color, texture, and layered surfaces. In addition to my ongoing classes, I lead hands-on painting workshops that explore a variety of experimental applications, including sculpted painting surfaces, acrylic skins, and collage materials such as paper towels. I have also published articles on these techniques and have been featured in Delray Magazine and Boca Magazine.
