About this Event
Color in Sound: Translating Music into Colored Pencil Drawings
Led by Juan Sebastian Restrepo
$25
All Materials Provided
Color in Sound explores the relationship between auditory experience and visual expression. Participants will translate rhythm, tone, and emotional atmosphere into layered colored pencil compositions. Through guided listening exercises and structured mark-making studies, attendees will develop a personal visual language rooted in sound. This workshop encourages intuitive response, experimentation with color theory, and expanded approaches to drawing as a sensory process.
By the end of the session, participants will:
• Develop techniques for translating rhythm and tone into line and form
• Explore emotional color mapping through layered pencil application
• Experiment with pressure, blending, and texture in response to sound
• Create a resolved abstract composition inspired by a musical piece
• Strengthen observational listening skills through visual interpretation
This workshop draws inspiration from historical and contemporary explorations of sound and visual translation, including synesthetic theory and abstraction practices. Participants are encouraged to consider drawing as a performative, time-based response rather than solely a representational act.
All levels welcome.
