Saddle Stitch Bookbinding Workshop: Reflecting on 2025
January 10 | 2–4 PM | $65 All materials provided
Participants are encouraged to reflect on their experiences and select one visual moment from each month—bringing a minimum of 12 photographs (4 × 6 inches), with the option to include more. In addition to photographs, attendees are welcome to bring archival or found materials, ephemera, and small objects to incorporate into their books during the decorative process.
Led by Artist-in-Residence Andrea Sarcos, the workshop will include a guided demonstration of saddle stitch binding, as well as a presentation of hand-bound book samples from her personal collection. Andrea will also share work she created during the PhotoBook as Object workshop with Yumi Goto in 2023, offering inspiration and context for approaching the photobook as a tactile, expressive object.
What to Expect:
Using the saddle stitch binding technique and thread, students will learn the fundamentals of hand bookbinding while assembling a personalized book that captures their most significant moments from the year.By the end of the session, participants will leave with a completed hand-bound book and a foundational understanding of saddle stitch bookbinding—creating a lasting vessel for reflection, renewal, and the year ahead.
