Performance: Mejiro! Mejiro! Mejiro!

Join us on Saturday, November 29 at 7 PM for a special one-night-only workshop presentation of “Mejiro! Mejiro! Mejiro!,” a new work-in-progress by interdisciplinary artist Cindy Mochizuki, based on her forthcoming graphic novel and artist book.

Drawing from interconnected short stories, actors bring to life a multi-verse world through voice, sound and animated projections.
At its centre is a young girl with clairvoyant abilities, whose path spans four generations of Japanese Canadian childhood—from pre-war Kyushu to the islands of Hawai‘i and the coast of British Columbia. Mochizuki’s signature blend of folklore, ghosts and creaturely presences runs throughout.
Developed over a five-day residency in the Gallery’s Courtroom, this evening offers an early look at a 30–40 minute excerpt of the work in progress.
This performance is being presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Enemy Alien: Tamio Wakayama” and is an initiative of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Centre for Global Asias.
