Pop-up books and cards are magical creations—and we’re bringing Vancouver maker and philosopher Tom Walker to Gabriola for a hands-on workshop in making them.Tom’s pop-up books use the element of surprise to engage with serious themes. In this workshop, you’ll learn the two primary pop-up techniques that can be combined to create complex structures.
Working with pages from Tom’s current project, we’ll explore how these simple forms can open a philosophical inquiry into the relationship between work, leisure, and time. His work draws inspiration from Walter Benjamin, Karl Marx’s Grundrisse, and the 1821 pamphlet The Source and Remedy of the National Difficulties by Charles Wentworth Dilke.
Appropriate for adults and older teens. No experience necessary. All tools & materials will be supplied. Limit: 10 participants.
