Beyond the Coursebook: Lesson Planning for Maximum Impact
What makes a lesson truly effective? And how can we make sure that our coursebook is working for us, rather than simply working our way through it?
In questo workshop pratico con Nino Naso esploreremo come progettare lezioni partendo dagli obiettivi di apprendimento, utilizzare con maggiore consapevolezza i principali lesson frameworks e trasformare il coursebook in uno strumento al servizio della lezione.
About the workshop
In this practical, hands-on session, we’ll revisit the key lesson frameworks for both language and skills lessons, exploring how different stages connect, overlap and support one another.
We’ll consider how to prioritise what really matters in a lesson by starting with the main aims and desired learning outcomes, rather than simply following a prescribed sequence of activities.
We’ll then put theory into practice in a coursebook surgery. Working with real coursebook materials, we’ll analyse what they are actually designed to achieve, identify where they work well – and where they fall short – and consider what could be adapted, supplemented, reduced or replaced to create more engaging and purposeful learning experiences.
By the end of the session, teachers will have a clearer framework for planning with purpose, making informed decisions about materials, and turning coursebook activities into lessons that maximise learning outcomes.
