How can we escape predominant tech narratives of efficiency, progress and automation, and instead create spaces to collectively imagine and shape alternative presents and futures?
In this 2-hour workshop we will use fabulation as an approach to storytelling and crafting, to explore and discuss what (alternative) feminist futures of technologies we long for in our communities. We aim to facilitate a space where feminist values such as inclusivity, queerness, intersectionality will be the foundation for our fabulations to imagine tech futures.
We will start with a brief introduction with inspirational examples from previous projects. Then we will work in smaller groups to play and experiment with the format of fabulating futures through different materials provided by the workshop organizers. We will end with a collective round of sharing and reflections
Louie Søs Meyer (they/she) is a queer technologist, software developer and researcher. Their work investigates machine learnings as a design material with a focus on art, bodies and wearable technologies. They are particularly interested in crafting alternative and critical ways of interacting with algorithms.
Vasiliki (Vaso) Tsaknaki (she/her) is an (interaction) design researcher, teacher, and crafter. Her research focuses on how bodies both make technologies and are (re)made through interacting with those. She also explores critical approaches to designing (with) the materiality and craft aesthetics of the digital world. She works at the IT University of Copenhagen.
